Thank you to everyone that attended the Jean Hanff Korelitz Author Reception at Ridgewood Public Library. The night was a great success! Attendees enjoyed charcuterie, cookies and wine, followed by an illuminating conversation with the author, led by library assistant director, Roberta Panjwani. Jean discussed her three newest novels - 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘰𝘵, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘭 and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳. She also spoke about her side venture, BOOKTHEWRITER, where she connects award-winning authors to book groups. The night was made complete with a book signing for all attendees.

Last month we announced that the Friends and Foundation, two organizations supporting the Ridgewood Public Library, had united to form the Friends Foundation of the Ridgewood Public Library, but you may still be wondering who we are. Our organization is comprised of community volunteers who share a love for the library and a deep commitment to its success. We are stay-at-home parents, artists, retirees, executives, teachers and more lending our talents to promote and raise funds for the amazing programs and services of the library. Friends is proud to support the Ridgewood Public Library's original podcast, A Bend in the Road. Recently, one of our very own volunteers, Sue Rodin, was interviewed by Library Assistant Director Roberta Panjwani.

In 1993, when Sue saw gender inequality in her workplace, she didn’t just get frustrated—she took action. Tapping into her network, she founded Women in Sports and Events (WISE), an organization built to support and elevate professional women in the sports industry. More than 30 years later, WISE is still going strong, with 25 chapters across the U.S. and Canada and over 6,000 members. Rodin has been called an “Eternal Optimist”—and in this podcast, you’ll see why.

Located in the heart of lower Manhattan, the Jackie Robinson Museum is New York City's first museum dedicated to the Civil Rights Movement. April 29, 6:00-8:30pm - “Ladies Tailor,” a 1990 film that tells the story of the last 24 hours of the lives of a Jewish tailor and his family in Kyiv prior to the Nazi massacre of Jews at Babi Yar in 1941. Benjamin Rifkin, Ph.D., provost and professor of Russian history, literature and film at Fairleigh Dickinson University, will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion.

May 4, 2-4:00pm - “Climbing Into Life,” a documentary detailing the inspiring life story of Dierdre Wolownick, the mother of “Free Solo”’s Alex Honnold. From unhappy wife and lonely mother, Dierdre confronts fear and ageism to end up on the wall of El Capitan at the age of 71. Followed by Q&A with Director Melissa Davey.

𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮, 𝙂𝙚𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙩...𝙍𝙀𝘼𝘿! February is Reading Marathon month. The Reading Marathon is a wonderful fundraiser that helps to foster a love of reading at school and home, while also raising valuable funds for the Friends of the Ridgewood Public Library to purchase books and media, as well as science, art and cultural programs for all ages.

All Ridgewood children in PreK-Gr. 12 are welcome to participate and no registration is required. Simply have your child set a personal reading goal & track their reading all month long. Then, submit their reading online at the end of February to be eligible for prizes, such as a free ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s, gift cards or a 20-Scoop Vermonster Sundae. If you don’t receive a flyer through your school, you can download one from the Reading Marathon website at the link in our bio. That’s also where you’ll find a list of fun events taking place throughout the month, beginning with three kickoff events for every age this Fri., Jan. 31 & Sat., Feb. 1 at the Ridgewood Public Library (event registration required).
