If you do too, stop by the Ridgewood Public Library this Tuesday to hear Ridgewood author Andrew Fisher present his new book 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘴: 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘔𝘢𝘤𝘺’𝘴 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘯. The book is a deeply researched and compelling portrait of a pivotal historical figure, whose family was impoverished by the Civil War, but rose to retail tycoon and major philanthropist. 🎉 Happy National Library Week! Friends Foundation is so grateful to have such an amazing library and library staff here in Ridgewood and recognizes the important role they play in making our community one of the most valued.

To celebrate, the library will be holding two special events, sponsored by the Friends Foundation:

First, on Thursday, 4/23, join them for an evening with award-winning (and Ridgewood-born) author Barbara Demick where she will present her latest book and discusses her years of reporting in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Then, on Friday, 4/24, enjoy a screening and discussion of the award-winning documentary “The Librarians.” Following the film, Hoboken Library Director, Jennie Pu, featured in the documentary, will speak about her experience.

Thank you, Ridgewood! We had over 1,700 students participate in Reading Marathon this year, reading a collective 28,000 books and raising over $6,000 for the Ridgewood Public Library! If you submitted your reading through the online form, elementary students will receive their Ben & Jerry’s coupon for a free ice cream in school by the end of the month and the middle school raffle winners will be notified by their school librarian. For those that donated $25 or more, the Ridgewood Library will contact you directly to choose a book for your bookplate.

To celebrate, join us for two Reading Marathon finale events at the Ridgewood Public Library this 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟰! First, beginning at 10:30, the 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 & 𝗣𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗼𝘇𝗮 is back! Children can join the dynamic duo for stories, crafts, snacks & photos. Then, from 1-3pm, attend 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗖𝗼𝗻 to meet graphic novel authors & artists, listen to the NJ Gamer Symphony Orchestra, compete in a Nintendo Switch tournament, take photos with live Star Wars characters or grab a free scoop from the Ben & Jerry’s cart.

February is Reading Marathon month! The Reading Marathon is a wonderful fundraiser that helps to foster a love of reading at school and home, while also raising valuable funds for the Friends Foundation of the Ridgewood Public Library to purchase books and media, as well as science, art and cultural programs for all ages.

All Ridgewood children in PreK-Gr. 12 are welcome to participate and no registration is required. Simply have your child set a personal reading goal & track their reading all month long. Then, submit their reading online at the end of February to be eligible for prizes, such as a free ice cream from Ben & Jerry's, gift cards or a Ben & Jerry's 20-Scoop Vermonster Sundae. If you don't receive a flyer through your school, you can download one from the Reading Marathon website at the link in our bio.

That's also where you'll find a list of fun events taking place at the Ridgewood Public Library throughout the month, beginning with two kickoff events for every age - Miss Jolie on Jan. 31 & K-Pop Demon Hunters on Feb. 2 (event registration required).

Friends Foundation is proud to sponsor this Friday's Reel Voices program. In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Ridgewood Public Library will be screening the first episode of Eyes on the Prize lll: “We Who Believe in Freedom Cannot Rest.” A propulsive narrative chronicling the fight for racial justice in America, this episode spans the rise of Reaganomics and the AIDS crisis, communities in the South Bronx and the Philadelphia fight for housing and healthcare. The film will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Leslie Wilson, Montclair State University professor and expert in environmental racism and African American studies. Registration on the library's website is required.
