Friends Foundation of the Ridgewood Public Library supports the library by raising private donations and managing an endowment that directly funds programs, services, facilities, and emerging needs identified by the library. It works alongside the library to ensure it has the resources to thrive as a community hub for now and generations to come.

We are a group of volunteers who share a love for our award-winning Ridgewood Public Library and a deep commitment to its success.

Thank you to everyone that attended the Jean Hanff Korelitz Author Reception at Ridgewood Public Library. The night was a great success! Attendees enjoyed charcuterie, cookies and wine, followed by an illuminating conversation with the author, led by library assistant director, Roberta Panjwani. Jean discussed her three newest novels - 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘭𝘰𝘵, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘭 and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳. She also spoke about her side venture, BOOKTHEWRITER, where she connects award-winning authors to book groups. In 1993, when Sue saw gender inequality in her workplace, she didn’t just get frustrated—she took action. Tapping into her network, she founded Women in Sports and Events (WISE), an organization built to support and elevate professional women in the sports industry. More than 30 years later, WISE is still going strong, with 25 chapters across the U.S. and Canada and over 6,000 members. Rodin has been called an “Eternal Optimist”—and in this podcast, you’ll see why.

April 29, 6:00-8:30pm - “Ladies Tailor,” a 1990 film that tells the story of the last 24 hours of the lives of a Jewish tailor and his family in Kyiv prior to the Nazi massacre of Jews at Babi Yar in 1941. Benjamin Rifkin, Ph.D., provost and professor of Russian history, literature and film at Fairleigh Dickinson University, will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion.

May 4, 2-4:00pm - “Climbing Into Life,” a documentary detailing the inspiring life story of Dierdre Wolownick, the mother of “Free Solo”’s Alex Honnold. From unhappy wife and lonely mother, Dierdre confronts fear and ageism to end up on the wall of El Capitan at the age of 71. Followed by Q&A with Director Melissa Davey.

Thank you, Ridgewood! We had over 2,000 students participate in Reading Marathon this year, reading a collective 39,000 books and raising over $7,700 for the Ridgewood Public Library! If you submitted your reading through the online form, elementary students will receive their Ben & Jerry’s coupon for a free ice cream in school by the end of the month and the middle school raffle winners will be notified by their school librarian. All Reading Marathon preschool & elementary participants receive a free ice cream coupon from Ben & Jerry’s and middle schoolers earn a chance to win gift cards or a Vermonster Sundae.

It’s not too late to donate! Even if you or your student already submitted reading, you can still make a donation via our website to continue to fund children’s & teen library programming. Donations of $25 receive a personalized book plate in a new book to be added to the Ridgewood Library. While donations are not necessary to participate, they are very much appreciated.

Join us for two Reading Marathon finale events at the Ridgewood Public Library this 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟴! First, beginning at 10:30, the 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 & 𝗣𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗼𝘇𝗮 is back! Children can join the dynamic duo for stories, crafts, snacks & photos. Then, from 12-3pm, attend 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗖𝗼𝗻 to meet graphic novel authors & artists, listen to the NJ Gamer Symphony Orchestra, compete in a Nintendo Switch tournament, take photos with live Star Wars characters or grab a free scoop from the Ben & Jerry's cart.
